Telling siblings of a new addition is, I think, as special as finding out the gender of a baby. I wanted to capture that moment of surprise not just on a photograph, but a memory I will, and my girls will remember. So, my husband Rob and I did our own ‘We’re going on a baby hunt’ or to the girls it was just a treasure hunt with a surprise at the end….
The clues
I wrote 10 clues which were all placed around the house, even in the garden! The first clue Rob gave to the girls in our living room to start the hunt which was: –
Clue 1 – To get you in the mood, the first clue can be found where we keep food.
Both girls ran to the kitchen and searched high and low in all the food cupboards. They found the second clue in the fridge.
Clue 2 – Move away from the pears and search on the stairs.
My youngest daughter Mia found this straight away and Holly helped her read the next clue.
Clue 3 – Don’t turn out the light, the next clue is where you say goodnight.
I hid this clue underneath Holly’s pillow, with the next one reading.
Clue 4 – Tick-tock goes the clock, go and have a look where you would find a sock.
This was hidden in Mia’s sock draw, which the girls took some time to find LOL!
Clue 5 – Don’t make a mess of the room as Mummy may get upset, go to the place where you would get wet.
They both went straight into our bathroom and found the clue in the shower cubicle. That’s when I thought this is the halfway mark and I had butterflies in my stomach with excitement!
Clue 6 – Are your feet getting sore? The next clue is by the front door.
Down the stairs the girls went and found the clue straight away.
Clue 7 – Next you need to look, where does Daddy cook?
Back into the kitchen they went. And I knew the next clue led the girls outside. I went into our living room to wait for them!
Clue 8 – One, two, three the clue is hiding in the tree.

Clue 9 – Go in out of the sun, the last clue is with your Mum.
The girls ran into me with smiling and excited faces I gave them the final clue….
Clue 10 – Did you have fun? The surprise is hiding in Mummy’s tum.

After they read the last clue, they both thought I was hiding treats underneath my jumper lol!
I showed them a picture of the the baby scan. They both were so shocked, Holly’s eyes filled up with happy tears and Mia jumped for joy. Both my girls gave me the biggest and most memorable hug.
