Newborn Photo Shoot

By on

A newborn photo shoot can be costly. So why not do it yourself at home. There is no pressure, no time restraints and its free!

Setting the scene

Babies are only newborn once, and those magical moments don’t last long. This special time does need capturing on photographs. Mobile phones have brilliant camera’s on them and you just need to find the right place at home to take your special photos. Get your husband or partner involved. Rob actually takes better pictures than me 🤫 don’t tell him i said that!

What to wear 🤔

There is no pressure or time limit. So find an outfit you like and if it doesn’t look right on camera, go find another outfit because your at home! In the below picture Millie is wearing a dress my mum bought. I just love girly pink colours and thats the theme I went for.

This picture was taken on the floor in my bedroom. I put a cushion underneath the pink blanket, lay Millie on it, then placed the balloon ring around her. I think it turned out really well.

Best time to take a newborn photo shoot

The above picture was taken on my bed! Rob actually stood on the bed whilst he took it from above. The hoop and balloons were from Amazon and the flowers bought from Home Bargains (if you are reading this from America, Home Bargains is the equivalent store to Dollar Tree).

As there is no time limits I took pictures of Millie during daylight hours in her pink dress, she was wide awake and although i managed to take some nice pictures of her she was quite fidgety. Then later on that day I took pictures of Millie in artificial light. Only this time round she’d not long had her bottle so was asleep. I must admit it was easier to position her when she was asleep. I do think its nice having different pictures in different lighting.

Professional newborn photo shoot

Don’t get me wrong, professional photos taken are great to have. However, lately I am always seeing advertised ’free newborn photo session’ or ‘£200 off for newborn photo shoot’? Yes this is a way to emotionally lure you in. When you see the photos, you walk out of the studio buying the majority of them, if not all of them because seeing your newborn baby emotionally pulls on your heart strings. Buying these professional newborn pictures can cost between £500-£1000 😱!

Social Media Platforms

I’ve said this before in my other blogs (Home pregnancy photo shoot, Happy 1st Birthday Millie) social media platforms put pressure on parents to think they have to do and pay out for experiences like these. No you don’t, you can create these images yourself, like I did.

Green Screen

A green screen is basically a large green cover. You can put anything on this green screen and there are apps you can download such a Photo Room. The app allows you to remove the green screen from the picture and change the background to a different colour or another image.

The Photo Room app allowed me to change the background and put her name in the picture. It is so easy to do and would say to anyone to give it a try.

My homemade newborn photo shoot

Don’t get me wrong, some of the professional newborn photos I’ve seen are cute and lovely. But I know myself within 3 to 6 months time new pictures would have been taken and framed because your baby changes so much and current pictures will be replaced with older ones. Am i right? Sibling photos

Having siblings on pictures is a priceless moment. The below picture is of my three daughters. This taken behind wardrobes because it gives a good background.
